I think I get what this arc is trying to portray (in my own point of view not to be taken literally).
black haired MC likes the dog but I think by the time that the dog suddenly started liking and cuddling MC. The guy suddenly hates it. Not that he hates dogs but because of the way the dog is acting at him. I often feel this emotion too either at people or animals when they start giving me close attention or affection.
Maybe because how his family treated him the feeling of being loved even by an animal seems foreign to him (i.e disgusted)?
