'definitely' is a bit too strong a word to use here - I do agree with you on how feminine men are perceived by most readers, as I said before. regarding their behavior: it's one thing to criticize the authors' penchant for straight up slapping the dynamics of a heterosexual relationship onto a gay one and calling it representation, and an entirely different one to hate feminine characters because that. is not only perpetuating toxic masculinity as well as misogyny - I mean, come on. there's a reason so many clueless young people around here get all fussy over the slightest display of femininity by a man. they are still stuck on the thought that everything feminine is 'weak' and that /their/ definition of masculinity is 'cool' and try to chalk that up for genuine criticism. not everyone here does that, of course - some people just happen to be searching for representation in their preferred form of content, like me, and possibly you -, but that's definitely what goes on with the majority. can't lie about that. that's where I'm with you.
you lose me at the point you claim masculinity to be a Very Big Bad Thing, which I'm confused as to how and would like to understand your perspective, lest I'm missing something. what backs my own claim is that there's a difference between masculinity and what is /proposed/ as masculinity, which oftentimes is the old-fashioned idea that 'real' mean have to be though, frigid, etc etc.
things have been changing. folks are fighting back these old ideals and standing for their own standards of masculinity, that which welcomes femininity, vulnerability and emotional freedom as an integral part of it. if masculinity is the quality of things commonly attributed to men, you can expect a spectrum of traits that dates back centuries ago, and that up until recently were taken as the ultimatum on how men should look and behave like. it's been changing now. men who'd never agreed with that in the first place are speaking up. it's not something written in stone.
tl;dr: I really can't bring myself to paint masculinity as inherently abusive when it's only taking the words the older generations have been repeating over and over again in ignorance, then slapping a cute 'look how progressive I am!' label onto it. to reiterate: I'm 100% on board with tearing down toxic masculinity, which is exactly what you were describing.
