that's why i hate 80% of mangas yaoi, they're all the same, a big seme a small uke, manly and feminine and kinda the same story with different character designs. 80% because there are other 20% where is also the same with seme-uke thing but the story is really good but there's nothing like a suke coupleლ(´ڡ`ლ) also is more realistic
That's because most are written by straight women for straight women, and the editors want the sex familiar feeling. Obvious male and female roles even with both being male. Seke give and take makes some straight readers too uncomfortable :P
Yeah yaoi is mainly for (cis straight) women by (cis straight) women, at least that's the focus in japan. Queerness and realistic queer relationship is usually not part of the main goal
If you read the raw of this manga the author does stray from the "standard" of yaoi mangas you are talking about. I don't remember if they switch roles but I do know that they are way more masculine pairs than Renya here. But as to what the people below are saying, I'd have to disagree a little. There are many yaoi's now a days that do not go the route of girl uke and masculine seme, some much so that it's irritating. I'm looking for more of those types of yaoi and having a tough time finding them lately :/ too many surprise uke-looking men turning out to be seme.
