I'm surprised now that I read the comment to see how that confused everyone. I kinda got it from the get go (=・ω・=)
The facial features of the second character* are peculiar in my opinion (also the eyes and lips drawn together like that are mesmerising), so he was especially recognizable.
*The one with blonde -when young- then dark -when adult- hair
I like the fact that this story doesn't fall into the hairstyle inertia trope where the hairstyles of the characters never change between flashbacks and present, but man does it make it difficult to tell what's going on. I had made it to the end of the chapter before I figured out who was who.
