Hello...I need advice please.
Trigger warning. Please don't read if easily triggered.

I know this isn't a advice page or anything like that but I don't know where to talk about this.
For the last couple of months I've been showing signs of depression but have never been checked out by a doctor or anything. No I'm not saying I have it but I reality I don't even know if I have it. Someone passed away in my family that I as close with. Very close.
I've lately been wanting to (Trigger warning) harm myself in serious ways. And I get this empty and sad feeling constantly.
Is this depression or just grief?

I think your in a state where you’re experiencing both depression and grief. I’ve never gone through a situation like that before, but i hope that you won’t harm yourself and everyone experiences grief differently. I hope you feel better!

it’s probably a combination or depression caused by grief. i would really recommend talking to someone about it or seeking help. you should never get to a point where you serialist want to harm yourself and never telling anyone, bc that’s obviously very dangerous to your body. if you have no one close to that you feel comfortable talking too, maybe look into getting a therapist or you could call a suicide line or a talk line, there is lots out there if you google. just remember that there’s different solutions and they all work differently for others so maybe try to find some that work for you and put you on a more positive path where you can heal and move on !!

Depression is something that needs monitoring. Is there a counsellor or a physician you can talk to? Sadness is normal, but staying low for months could be a chemical imbalance (I have dealt with this for years!) or it could be as simple as low thyroid function. Try this test (from Psychology Today) and try to see someone for help - true depression needs monitoring, especially if you feel like harming yourself. https://www.psychologytoday.com/tests/health/depression-test Take care!

This actually sounds like PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). Of course, no one can diagnose you via the internet, but it sounds like losing this person was extremely traumatizing for you. No matter what it is, PTSD, Depression, Grief, whatever, please see a professional!! If you're at the point you want to hurt yourself, it's a sign that this is not something you're just going to 'get over' or 'work through' without help... if you're uncomfortable with going to a specialist there are helplines and even services that will let you text with a counselor for free.
You are very brave to post this. That alone shows you really want to live and not hurt yourself. Hold onto that.

Please don't self-diagnose, just don't. Even psychology majors don't conduct psychological tests on themselves because of misinterpretations and bias. More so internet "psychological test" which are not validated by a psychologist/psychometrician. If you feel like you're in the 4D's (Distress, Deviance, Dangerousness, Dysfunction), please consult a counselor/psychologist. If it's too expensive I think there emergency numbers like HOPE in your country I guess.

I’m majoring in Psychology, and all I can say is that it’s good that you know something is off, and that you’re seeking help. However, it’s better to seek one from a professional. I really wish you well
