I get that it's a bit upseating But in truth a king could hardly leave his duty... and indeed the situation is not ideal but they resolved to the fact they cannot live without each other so they compromise... The comment at the end they will go both to hell it kind of shows they understand the gravity of their actions but nevertheless they are wiling to accept the consequences no matter how cruel... Not easy to understand but the adult world the real world is complex complicated and heavily relies on compromises (〜￣△￣)〜
