Ok, I know it's suppose to be emotional and I'm over thinking this whole thing, but the only thing I can think is "Why not just transplant the tree?" I mean, it might not work, the tree might still die from being transplanted, but at least he would have tried. (I mean, he had time to go out there and chop it down, why not take the extra time to attempt to transplant it?)
Isn't it a pretty lengthy process for an already grown tree? You have to prune the roots, and the kid seemed to be the disconnected kind so even if he managed to dig it out he wouldn't be able to movie it alone. Didn't seem old enough to have his own money so paying someone else to do it is a bust.
Yeah, that is a good point that it may have been too large/old to transplant. He may have just found out about it and not had enough time and/or resources. Plus transplanting such an old tree might end up killing it in the end either way.
