After re-reading the entire thing a couple of months ago I realize we complain, but the pacing of this manga and the developments have actually been pretty good. Think about it, we've already delved into the past of the two main characters, they each have faced and overcome their individual traumas (Ren with his past, Kyoko with the abandonment of her mother), they each have realized and accepted their feelings for each other, and in terms of missing plot developments, there are none. The only point that needs to be resolved now is the Shotaro conundrum. After that, the only thing that would be left would be the actual finding out of each other's feelings.
When we think about it calmly, this is only Kyoko's 4th audition since her debut, third for a big part (Dark Moon's Mio, Box R's Natsu and now Momiji). The Kuu arc and the Heel Siblings arc were self-discovery, but all in all, the issues at the beginning have pretty much all being resolved. The only hurdle Kyoko needs to overcome now as an actress is a romantic scene (which, if she had to do with Ren would kill 2 birds with one stone). When you consider it carefully, it makes me think that we are approaching the finish line. Sure, it might still be a couple of years (at a rate of 12 chapters per year one cannot really tell the exact time table), but I think we are finally getting there. ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶ ┗( T﹏T )┛

most of the complains are seem to be about the slow pace in romance. i think they approaching this as a primary romance manga, not as a slice of life about working to be a successful actress that the manga is. you really need to put romance at the back for this manga. for me they can get together at the end, i dont care, because them getting together is not the end of the story, Kyoko become a famous and successful actress is the goal here. but I hope they get together before the end, i really want to see another manga with a good relationship like Baby Step.

but if u think about it the two of them have yet to find out the fact that who they are like for kyoko ren aka corn and for ren the chicken kyoko and his friends those two are also yet to discover that they hae helped each other without the other finding out who they really are so yeah there is lots of development left.

    arebg452 January 23, 2018 10:02 pm

Yeah, but what I mean is that outside plot points are all covered (except Shotaro), their relationship is the only point that's still in development (Kyoko finding out he's Corn and he finding out she's the chicken is also a part of their relationship, especially considering what he did as Corn in Guam). The issues Kyoko had with love (that stemmed from her mother's and not so much Shotaro's abandoment) are getting resolved now that she forgave her mom, and even her relationship with Sho is softening. They will never be friends (I wouldn't want her to, since he is a pretty big jerk), but at least now there is not the same murdering attempts or relentless pursuit on Kyoko's part like at the beginning (when it almost caused her to lose her part as the Chicken, and then again as the angel in Sho's PV). Now she treats him like you would a particularly bothersome and hateful relative, which I think it's perfect.
As for Ren, he was finally able to forgive himself and allow himself to accept that he loves Kyoko and wants to pursue a relationship with her. Basically the only hurdle now is that their finding out has been so built up it will have to happen in some very explosive way (which is why I thought putting them in opposing romantic roles would be perfect, it would prove Kyoko's mettle as an actress and also bring in some SPICEEEEEE)

Thank you! Now I know that there are people who actually read it and enjoy the story as it is.. so sick of all the complains.. Yes, it has been a very long time.. but I feel that for this kind of story, it really need to take its time. Kyoko's dream is to be #1 in the showbiz, and that is not something that can be built in a couple of years. To be number one and she just going to get his non-antagonist role.. hang in there, guys..

For me, Skip Beat is always half shonen and half shoujo, so I read it as both, therefore I am able to truely enjoy it. Somebody said that the main different in shonen and shoujo was their goals, shonen's is dream and shoujo's is love, and Skip Beat is both!

For them who only read it for its love story are totally missing out a lot. And honestly, I love slow-paced romance! Guess I'm just a little masochist in shoujos.. ( ̄∇ ̄")

Lol, I don't see it as masochism so much as wanting the story to make sense. Many a great project has been ruined because of pacing. Besides, I have another shojo in my past that is very like Skip Beat, not so much in theme but in pacing and overall storytelling style. Red River is similar to Skip Beat in that, although the love relationship between the MCs is central to the story, the growth of the lead female from a naive scared girl into a confident, capable and respected woman is what makes the story truly great. Red River is my favorite manga ever. Plus I'm also an Akatsuki no Yona fan so you can tell I always root for the girl to make it.
The main problem I see is the chapters coming on once a month! Every arc in Skip Beat is around 20 ch so we pretty much get less than an arc per year. I understand how it can get frustrating. Also, I find it incredibly sexist that shounen mangas can have a weekly release deadline while every shojo ever is relegated to monthly installments. Why the hell don't they make a Shojo Jump!!!!!!

I totally agreed. if the waiting period between chapter isnt a month, it wouldnt feel as slow for peoples. personally i dont mind, i like excitement of reading it after the long wait, and because i feel bad for mangaka and how hard it is for them, their working condition is so horrible. I'm kinda glad she has more to rest, i guess. And i read one piece this is nothing to me.

If people don't understand why some complain about the pacing of this manga then they missed the point entirely. What I think is, some are so obsessed with this manga that they cannot see outside the box, or the whole story. Like watching Naruto Shippuden. Each episode has less than 5 minutes to keep the story moving forward and the rest are filled with fillers, always something with the ninjas and the past or not even related. FYI: Naruto and Naruto Shippuden aren't about romance. So when we complain about pacing, don't always assume that we're complaining why Ren and Kyoko not together yet.

Then can you tell me a single arc or development so far that didn't further one of the plot points and was unnecessary? Each of the arcs of this manga has been important. They have either developed the character of Kyoko, the character of Ren or the relationship of the two. The new characters introduced always complemented the action while making the main characters shine (like that dude that was Ren's counterpart when he acted as BJ) or created conflict to further the plot along (like kyoko's mom and this Erika girl in the Momiji arc). You say that that if people don't understand the complains they miss the point, so what is the point? That people can complain? No one's said otherwise. 12 chapters a year sure is rough especially if (like me) you've been almost 10 years following this manga, however from a storytelling standpoint the pace of it is not in any way slow or cluttered. Naruto had plenty of episodes that were just trash but I honestly can't see how you can compare the two.

Try to re-read it again and find the "unnecessary" yourself, but don't you ever disregard over 100 people's opinion of this manga!

I would think asking your opinion is the opposite of disregarding, but then again, your lack of an answer I guess is an answer itself.

    Dear mr/mrs anonymous,

"Don't confuse the truth with the opinion of the majority" ~Jean Cocteau

Everybody have the right to think differently, arebg452 happened to see what the majority didn't see, and she/he has the right to express it, hence the comment section. You are free to say whatever you think is right, but it's funny if you say somebody cannot think in a certain way whatever the reason is..

Maybe I'm among the minority in this case, I reread it every two years or so and never find the pace is to long or unnecessary. I have read so many books and manga, shonen, shoujo, josei, yaoi, etc, and I'm quite confident in my feeling (or judgement or instinct whatever i can't find the right word) on whether a story is good or bad. If I feel a story is good, I try to ask myself if I'm being subjective, so I'm the type that think twice or thrice and often find myself reread the whole think just to be objective in my opinion over a story. I think skip beat is very slow, but in a good way, and I enjoy it very much, from my early teenage years until my late 20s. But you know what, that's just my opinion. Feel free to disagree, but please, don't force your opinion without any solid reasoning.. ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
