I actually like Masato x Hotaka more than Chika x Hotaka. First off, Masato has been in love with Hotaka for almost as long as Chika. Masato kept his feelings a secret, not hurting Hotaka in the process. Secondly, Chika advanced onto Hotaka, claiming a temporary relationship, took his... chrysantemum virginity, and then threw him away just to force Hotaka to realize his feelings.
Now out of these two semes, which one is more heartless? To me, Chika is the more heartless and the more selfish one.
Now that Masato is divorced, and he knows Hotaka can be in a homosexual relationship, it's now apparent to him that he can be with Hotaka. You only learn to treasure things once you lose them. This manga is a very good example of that.
