Kurotsuki isn't just sex and fuck buddy

As for the hate, it has always been there.

This is gonna be long so under the cut it is. Warning, ramblings about ship hate.

I don’t know how it is for other people but from my firsthand experience, when I first drew for kurotsuki, I already received hate. I got anon hates. People reblogged my stuff just to comment on how they hated it. Daily hates on kurotsuki tag. You name it. That’s why I block people really easily lmao =q=

It all started when kurotsuki was still fresh and new. There were some people (I don’t need to drop names) who made lots of fanworks with fuckbuddies tropes as its main focus. Because apparently “nooo, i can only see Kuroo loving Kenma, so kurotsuki is only sex”. Because there were no other kurotsuki people at that time, their works were prominent. Probably one of the biggest. And if everyone browses any kurotsuki-related contents, those works will always come up even now. Some people even still recommend those works if people are into some smutty hot yoaiz.

Another thing is when people who already shipped Tsukki with someone else made lots of works involving this ship as plot device, to give their own ship some pain, and in the process of that, Kuroo was mischaracterized into abuser whose purpose was to give Yamaguchi some pain because he’s taking Yamaguchi’s man away. Or just to make Yamaguchi’s life miserable because love triangle bullshit.

People saw. People judged. People thought that’s what kurotsuki was all about. People hated. Fair enough. Even if the people who made it were not even kurotsuki fans to begin with.

But then there were also people who were like “hey, but kurotsuki is this cute fluffy ship, why are there only hate sex fuckbuddies and fucked up infidelities? that’s very NOT them” and the era of fluff happened.

Kurotsuki fans started making lots of fluff. We were very productive people. We wanted to drown those tropes so that it wouldn’t surface when people searched for kurotsuki. We wanted people to see that hey, this is a perfectly cute ship. Some other people even say kurotsuki has surplus fluff.

But stereotypes are hard to erase, especially when the fuckbuddies trend made by newer people or people who don’t know is resurfacing again, or if it came from people with closed minds. And people who are popular enough to spread misinformations. BNFs who already shipped other certain popular ships with Kuroo or Tsukki posted that they also hated kurotsuki. Probably for no other reason than it breaks their otps. And their followers just followed them headfirst without thinking. Because they’re BNFs, they can’t be wrong, amirite?

And they were justifying their hates by making those ridiculous excuses (that could be shrugged off by canon material itself tbh) and while I tried to ignore them, it would still get to me because of the amount of hate I saw. A small list for examples:

1. Their age gap is unhealthy –> lmao 2 years apart is not that big gap tbh, funny I didn’t see them hating on other 2y-gap ships like Kiyo///Yachi or any captains ship with Hinata? I smell double standard. (Psst, I also ship Kiyo///Yachi so eh ^q^)

2. What about Yamaguchi/Kenma/insert a character here???? –> let me link you to this post (nsfw warning) and stop acting like you actually care about those other characters lmao also those characters certainly deserve better than fans who think they must be dependent on another character to exist, because wow apparently a character can’t interact or be friends with other different characters huh???

3. Why would you ship kurotsuki when (insert another ship here) exists? –> because I have better taste duh =p nah, because everyone has different preferences. To force people to like the same thing as you is just very childish and immature.

4. Ships with LDR is bad –> kuro///dai anyone? or oi///kuro? or basically any tokyo-miyagi combo ships anyone? but yes it is, I agree that Kuroo and Tsukki should be together instead, married and living happily, I knooow

5. Kuroo acts like Tsukki’s parents –> let me remind you that Kuroo actually said (in novel?) that he acted like Kenma’s guardian parent. Yet I don’t see all you shippers complaining about their “father-son” sexy times? More double standard???? Or should I say hypocrisy?

6. Kurotsuki discredits Bokuto and Yamaguchi’s importance to Tsukki’s development –> excuse you, i’m just laughing so hard. Let me also remind you that without Kuroo, Tsukki’s development would never happen in the first place. He’s the first trigger. Don’t even try to deny that. Right before it all began Yamaguchi had asked Tsukki to practice some more, Tsukki refused. Bokuto asked him to join, Tsukki refused. Kuroo provoked him, he got in. Also, while you all say that scene with Yamaguchi as the holy grail of Tsukki’s development, let me also point out what happened afterwards. Let’s not forget that scene because it’s also important. Tsukki said Yamaguchi was cool, right? Right? It didn’t stop there. He also said, “But I still don’t agree with you”. Bolded for emphasis. That’s why he seeked his answers somewhere else: The 3rd Gymnasium, where Bokuto gave him the “moment” speech. That should be the holy grail instead of the pride speech. So yes, Bokuto and Yamaguchi are important, but they are not the MOST important. Because what we see in kurotsuki is not that Kuroo taking all the credits to Tsukki’s development, but that Kuroo actually wants to see Tsukki develop, that he becomes one of the keys to his development. There are differences in those contexts ok.

7. But they’re abusive and they hate each other –> lmao no they are NOT and they DON’T. Let me direct you to this beautiful power point post about how their interaction is like.

8. I hate how the fandoms portray kurotsuki because it’s just sex/kuroo is a pervert/mischaracterization –> there are extremes in this case? Which part of the fandom are you talking about? This is where the inconsistencies lie. Kurotsuki shippers (or at least the people I know and interact with) ship this ship as healthy couple doing cute fluffy couple stuff. And basically really sappy things. Their relationship is based on mutual respect. Tsukki respects Kuroo enough to follow his advice, to allow him use that nickname Tsukki, to ask for more tips in blocking. Kuroo respects Tsukki’s space, he stepped on Tsukki’s insecurities, apologized afterwards to Tsukki’s captain, listened when other people talked about Tsukki so he knew how not to offend Tsukki anymore. Kuroo also helped Tsukki becoming better player and better person (previously Tsukki’s way of provoking people was very juvenile like calling Hinata short, or deliberately making Kageyama angry, but after Kuroo happened, his way provoking is more like Kuroo’s? “If you’re also MB, you should be able to do this” and that’s more like encouraging to get better?) Most of the shippers I know like them in healthy relationship.

But most outsiders see kurotsuki as this sex-only fuckbuddies trope with no feelings attached, or that they use each other because they can’t get into their one-true-love’s pants, and some ridiculous scenario they made up just to fuel on their hate because of how unhealthy their relationship is. Basically, all they’re seeing is the fucked up version they themselves made of why this ship couldn’t work.

And many more excuses tbh.

My word? BULLCRAP.

Kurotsuki people got hates, got death threats (yes it happened, because of a fucking ship), got ridiculed and shamed for shipping an innocent thing that should be okay, and I even saw some people begging their friends in the tag to not stop talking to them now that they shipped kurotsuki. It was ridiculous but it happened.

((edit: someone reminded me that kurotsuki was also voted as fandom’s biggest notp lmao yeah it happened, also there was a time where every kuroo shippers and every tsukki shippers who don’t ship kurotsuki back then made it like a major shitfest competition on who could shit on kurotsuki harder, what a time to be alive, when you ship kurotsuki you’re immediately a lowest class citizen and that gave other people the right to bully you lmao, i guess that’s also what fueled me to notp almost every other kuroo ships and tsukki ships that are not with each other))

I’m not telling people to ship my ship. Go ship whatever you want as long as you’re not being dicks to other people. If you don’t ship kurotsuki, it’s okay, live your life. But sadly, kurotsuki haters are the rudest dicks I’ve ever seen in hq fandom.

((edit number 2: my irl friends can vouch to this. i open tables at cons and everytime i sell kurotsuki merchs, there are always rude customers, people in REAL LIFE, who come to me only to say “kurotsuki sucks”, “it is my notp”, “why don’t you sell -insert another ship- instead?” until we lost count, or when i browse around and go buy other people’s merch and ask for a kuroo and a tsukki, i give the seller fucking money and help their business but they still dare to disrespect me, stink eye, glare, snort “ah… a kurotsuki shipper” well if you don’t want a kurotsuki shipper to buy a kuroo merch with a tsukki merch, don’t sell them together??))

It’s almost cute how childish and immature people are about their kurotsuki hate and pulling more ridiculous excuses out of their ass. And when you tell them with reasons and use canon to back up your defense, they’ll go “it’s my notp, why would i care about its enhancements” lmao. So tldr; they come up with the most random ridiculous hateful stuff, hate kurotsuki because of their own assumption, and when told about it, they become defensive and unreasonable, and they ignore and silence our voice. And they are also violent, like threatening “i will claw my eyes out if i see kurotsuki” or “it makes me want to smash my head to table” like yooooo, chill. It’s just a fucking fictional ship.

And I agree with some people that the shippers of some other popular ships are afraid that kurotsuki is gaining popularity (hey hey hey come here we don’t bite) so they do all they can to bash and spread how bad it is to keep their ship on top. A hint: if you have to shit on another ship to praise on yours, maybe your ship is shitty to begin with.

All those things and people still dare saying “HQ fandom is very peaceful, unless you count bitter and salty kurotsuki fans” lmao why do you think we’re bitter and salty in the first place?
