it seems like there's a time limit so if time runs out and you haven't eaten your friends yet then it's game over and you die – in this case, the infection will probably cause your head to explode.

I'd say it probably doesn't have to be his fingers (as you said there's only 10). It's probably more along the lines of he has to be the one to retrieve them (aka hack them off of the class' hands). Of course, I could also be wrong/
