Yeah it's not great, it's on the level of porn in some ways. Though tbh I've seen far far worse, this actually a decent oneshot even compared to some full series I've read. They were pretty shitty.
It's meant to serve the authors (and anyone else's) fetish. I don't think it was ever really meant to be good. It was created more as a 'hey, what if we had some rich assehole think he can buy the uke and rape him' than an actually story. The editor probably suggested it, the mangaka went lets try it and then they just rushed it out and moved to the next one.
So it is indeed, an excuse for a rape story. So that's honestly what I judge it as. It is what it is, and there's no point comparing it to something like Sakura Gari, which I really enjoyed, since they just don't have the same purpose. One is meant to share a story and one is meant to share a situation.
Maybe the reason I take a different stance from you is that my expectations are just lower. I don't stumble across that many good, thoughtful yaois, and I don't really mind settling for crappy ones in the mean time. But I think it's like watching a chickflick, majority are not particularly well done, the story is cliche at best and the acting.... well leaves much to be desired. But I can enjoy them as mindless entertainment from time to time, something to switch off to. The same can be said for a lot of yaois. I'm just not expecting them to be good. I'm expecting them to be vaguely entertaining and that's it.
Well said. Yaoi, in general, is not a "change the worldview" genre. For the most part, it is soft porn on a good day and hardcore porn on an average day. It is like comparing Madame Bovary's Lover and Debbie Does Dallas. Both are erotica, but one is deep and moving with a strong plot and theme, the other is meant to jerk off to. Then there is the fact that all of yaoi is pure fantasy, in that, every one is written as a hetero-normalized version of homosexual relationships. Homosexual men, in real life, don't have the same dynamics in their relationships that are depicted in yaoi. Yaoi is 90% fantasy, 5% conjecture and 4% bold face lies. The rest is the truth. If anyone expects the percentages for truth to be better, yaoi is not what they should be reading, biographies or historical accounts would be better. Maybe a textbook or two as well.
This manga was just a total excuse for rape. There's nothing else there
