A friend of mine experienced a situation just like this. Ended in absolute distrust, a broken relationship and him getting an angry face by me every time we meet. (I should've punched him instead.) And he felt so damn gentlemanly whilst telling her that he didn't have an affair but fell in love with someone else instead and thus only wanted to be faithfully to her (my friend).
