Shiro, the child, suddenly got abandoned by his mother. Then he saw the white cat, tae-san, and he found comfort from her because he thinks that they're kinda same, who's alone,.. because she dont have children, that's why shiro, treated the cat like his mother.
After some time, Shiro's mom actually left the small town because she was sick and almost dying. She left shiro because she wants him to hate her and forget her.
