but rn I really hate the uke. But tbh, I understand. Some people do get taken aback or get shocked when finding out that someone they know, in this case dated, is a homosexual(or transgender etc.). And that's normal. Especially when it's a straight person. I'm pretty sure as the story progresses the uke will come to understand and embrace it.
