In the beginning of the manga. When she asked why... he was talking about how his mom was always too tired to deal with two kids and always made him do all the chores while she slept.

His mom is awful. She is a stay at home mom. Her only job is to take care of the house, if she couldn't take care of two kids maybe she didn't need a second. Most moms in America raise multiple children and work. Some do it without a husband. I don't see what her problem is.
