I never really thought about it cuz it's normal over here in the states but yeah you're supposed to wait a few days before contacting the other person or you'll come off as desperate.

i don't think that here in italy there is such a rule... but it's funny, it's ok if you seem desperate, it' s like you are desperately in love, no? :'D

That's probably because your country actually understands and appreciates romance. American dating culture is very odd. A certain level of detachment and disinterest is expected, and saying you love someone "too soon" is actually big problem that can end a relationship. You're not even supposed to talk about your general relationship goals during the early part because it might seem too desperate. Like Americans don't necessarily do confessions first thing -- it's more asking people to "hang out" or get together to do stuff without naming the relationship/feelings until someone finally breaks down and is honest. Not everyone is like this, and there are probably regional variations, but this seems to be the agreed upon cultural norm that gets displayed in media. It leads to a whole lot of confusion and heartbreak.

it's more like an unwritten rule to wait a couple of days before contact. but, if you like someone enough, and if they're interested, too, then why does any type of rule have to be followed? just do what feels right for you and the relationship goal.

Yep thats a pretty accurate description of the way romance works here. Like you said it changes from culture to culture and region to region but yeah thats about bow it goes.

I think your question was rhetorical but im gonna answer it anyway, because you could potentially scare the other person off. Confessing your feelings too soon or coming on "too strong" will stop a potential new relationship DEAD IN ITS TRACKS. I cant count how many times ive heard things like "OMG its only been a few months and they're already saying I love you, creepy" or variations on that theme.
