I've known about the ending for a long time so I've sort of prepared myself for it, but it still saddens me that Makoto sacrificed his happiness for his mother's. I know that he wants to be an upstanding son, but there are other ways to achieve that. If his mother had researched the topic thoroughly, she would have realized that he would never truly be happy. I'm glad that he cherishes his family, but I hope that he is able to be his true self someday. I've said this previously, even though I want everyone to be happy, I appreciate how realistic this story is. Unfortunately, there are people who have to conceal their true identity and sexuality. I'm just grateful that Tarou and Futoshi were able to stay together and maintain a healthy relationship. I wonder if sensei is going to create a story for Nanjou and/or Yanagida.

I accidentally downvoted.. But I 100% agree with you. It'll took least a century or two for them (LGBT) to be completely accepted..
