I wonder why Shun always looks troubled / bothered by something. Also once they separated for 3 years, it's like their personalities were swapped -- Shun became quiet and and a bit distant whilst Mio became more expressive and cheerful ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍

Yea this comment,,, I was also thinking about the personalities swap ,, I guess when you think about someone too much , you will start to behave like one ,,,, that's my guess(๑•ㅂ•)و✧

Right! It was so strange. But when you think about it, it's not impossible for it to happen, even in real life.

**Spoilers for those who hasn't read it yet**

Mio was still a teenager when he left so he was still developing or maturing. Being away from the place that's filled with memories both happy and sad allowed him to breathe and grow a little easier. But he had someone important who's still in the island so he couldn't completely sever himself from this place. Not to mention it's also where his mother is buried.

Shun, on the other hand, just grew older, not "grew up". He grew weary and jaded, never really moving forward and away from his own trauma. He was trying to recover back then when he first met Mio, and his stay in the island was like a therapy for him. But Mio left for three years, leaving him a promise that to him was never fulfilled, and the people he was surrounded with started moving ahead of him as well. The island and the house became more like prison than anything. He made himself confined there. I think his reserved nature was like the result of his loneliness or something.

    And then Mio came back.

Although it seems like he doesn't experience flashbacks anymore, he was still in distraught with sexuality, IMO. I think he felt guilty and thought it was his fault that Mio "turned gay" and chose him. Based on his experience, he believed being homosexual is bad news and if he could prevent it, he would convince someone (Mio) from getting involved in a homosexual relationship. Seriously, he was so trapped in his trauma, it's so sad to see him turning into a shell of an old man.

Plus I think he felt guilty that Mio had to come back to the island. Maybe he thought he trapped Mio in the island together with him. With that line of thought, it kinda makes sense why Shun acted like that in his speech for Mio to come with him to Hokkaido; why neither of them considered the option of Shun returning to the island after visiting his family, acting like he wouldn't come back anymore; and why he seemed surprised or did not expect for Mio to easily come with him. Perhaps he thought it was too much to ask? Mio is attached to the island? Or he's not enough that Mio would leave everything just for him?

This is such a mean thing to say but, rather than the two of them switching personalities, it's more like Shun became worse, becoming a weak willed coward. It's a good thing Mio came back or else he would have never gotten better.

It's so easy to get carried away and write a whole essay from reading short mangas but it takes days just to think of something and write the first paragraph for an essay assignment ( ̄∇ ̄")

Sorry for the REALLY long reply.
