Well, I don't disagree that what Rogi does to Tatsuyuki is horrible. But I think you are mistaking the purpose of Jealousy (Rogi's background story.) I think a lot of people are thinking it's supposed to make them pity or like Rogi, but that's not the point of it. The point of it is to understand the point of THIS manga, why Tatsuyuki was able to be so generous and allow Rogi not only to live but to help him. Tatsuyuki cannot "throw anyone away" because he sees the value in all of humanity. So in Jealousy, you're not being asked to pity or forgive Rogi but to follow on his journey as he finds a value in himself. To do that, we accompany him into his past, where he has to come to terms with everything that has led him to where he is now and decide how he will move forward. If he can do that and make something valuable of his life, he justifies the great faith and generosity that Tatsuyuki bestowed on him in this story.
Rogi is extremely beautiful to me. I think he had moments in his youth to stop what he was doing, but he's trapped in his ways. He does things that can't be forgiven and he knows. None of that excuses him. Consequence shouldn't excuse anyone. But I cannot hate him. A lot of people and things enabled his fucked up actions. All actions have reactions. All causes have effects. There's always two sides. But me stating that could just lead to a snowball. But what I'm stating by this is that saying he's fucked up and deserves pain doesn't really fix anything. What causes his actions also is his obsession with Akitora. Saying he deserves what is already happening, just... If nothing changes, we'll always get the same results. The unrequited love, despite how he deserves it, doesn't mean he will stop being fucked up. I honestly feel that Rogi dug a hole he couldn't climb out, so he felt the only option left was to dig deeper. I'm not sure if you ever had a situation where you've been desperate and without options. Like a man fighting the pressure of a current as it drags him deeper and deeper, after he loses his sense of what is up to oxygen again he is left with only one option: drown. Go deeper until the end. Rogi knows right, but he doesn't have that option. He wants what he wants and it takes doing wrong. He knows how hopeless his want is for Akitora and it drives him mad. Having hope stripped from you is irritating. He acts out. In all of this, I'm not saying he isn't wrong. Hell, the shit he has done is filthy. But I cannot hate him. In life, some people win and others lose. In order to have a win, someone has to get the opposite. Someone has to be the opposite. In Rogi's case, he has lost. He won't be good like other characters. And he won't have love like other characters. It's tragic. He's a mess and I find him so intriguing. I love that we get soft signs of morals. He knows sacrificing other's chastity, time and life is wrong, but he wants what he wants. He knows due to what he has done he'll never get it, but he purses it anyway. I think he doesn't see any other point of living than for Reika. Even if the love is toxic and futile. Since the beginning he was meant to fail. To be corrupt. And this is important in just knowing. Not everyone reacts in the same way. Not everyone does the right thing. Not everyone thinks they have the option. Not everyone makes life about others and themselves. Just themselves. Rogi is a character who has so much in him. He's complex. It's easy to write him off as a villain. The hard part is understanding him. And I believe you're looking at his story wrong. You went in with the mindset of disliking him. You already knew the effect of him in his later years. You hated him and had your own biases before his story. And yes, I read his story before this. I only read this for Rogi actually. I don't like the masculine uke look so I avoid it. Personal preference. But after looking into comments, I wanted to see how Akitora x Rogi went. So I'm here now.
So many who don't know or understand what love and forgiveness really is, in all its forms, don't often understand themselves or others. It's not asking us to forgive or even really understand the choices made that have been important to the dynamics, but rather, to see how jealousy can destroy everything, good and bad. My interpretation, anyway.
Rogi is an psychopathic asshole. who is mentally unstable. How would he have felt if someone raped Reika when she was an adult ? He held no sympathy for someone elses kid,so how would other rapist want to feel sympathy for his kid if by a horrible tragedy it happened , its not even hot , those rape scenes. And to use a rape victim's boyfriend by manipulating and blackmailing him . I hope Rogi dies with an unrequited love, the only love he should recieve is from Reika, thats all he deserves. Even reading his background story mangaa, doesn't help pity him at all. He needs a extensive psychiatric counselling and no amount of smut can make what he did ok. I can never digest people who read this manga and still find Rogi attractive or a cool charachter.
