Ralph met Val when he was 5 years old at his grandfather's grave. When Val took him to his castle, Ralph's soul left his body because other souls were calling to his pure soul. His soul went to be with his grandfather's. Val, however, was trying to put his soul back into his body and made a deal with Ralph. To complete the deal and regain his soul, he must kill Craig at the end. Ralph, however, cannot kill someone he's begun to care about so he uses the sword on himself and his soulless body is destroyed. Later on, Ralph's soul meets Val for the last time and Val returns him to Heaven.
