You got it right. Actually it's tiring to hate when the present timeline is already revealed. We already know Rogi was left behind, took a shot that maybe Akitora has anything left for him, then failed with it. So the real question is how does Rogi help himself after years of wallowing?
Yup updates are slow since it is still ongoing. But we are fortunate that translations are released as the chapter is available, uncensored of course.

I like how you think girl! I have the same theories. It's a total mystery why Akitora is so captivated by Rogi. My bet is the freedom that Rogi exudes which Akitora is very JEALOUS of. They are very the same, reckless and adventurous people got attracted to each other but Akitora has his Yakuza duties restricting him. I bet they have the same brain waves.
And yes! Rogi won for a time since he got to work with their group but he was never officially a member (exchanging sake cups) but because of what he did to Tatsuyuki, Yuki's punishment is to bind him in Yakuza rules. I am also very interested how he now works in the group. The very minimal scenes in the present timeline doesn't really give much with regards Rogi's Yakuza duties.
Imagine, Hachi, Akitora and Rogi in a room together with possibly Yuki, Nozomi and Reika around the area. Mindblown.....
I strongly believe that Akitora has a thing for Rogi, strong enough to show but weak enough to get over shadowed by his duties and responsibilities.

I wanna see how things will progress (or not) because I saw Yondaime and those chapters from here showing that he grew older, had Reina and still hung up with Akitora.
Maybe I'll just wait for something to happen between them when Akitora might somehow break his resolve, screw Rogi because he can't take it anymore, get his ass back to the real world then say byebye to Rogi papa beacuse that's what is RIGHT.
