There is a part in the story that goes as a flash back with koharu and her mom,
Her mom was looking at picture and letters of masamune and when koharo asked excitedly if this was her dad, her mom said while crying
No he is not your father, he is mother's precious person or friend
Something along those lines
So ya I guess that stuck with the child until the end (=・ω・=)
Wow this author knows how to make people laugh and cry hard! The only thing I didn't like too much was the relationship with the coworker. It was a bit forced. If he wasn't ready to move on, he shouldn't have forced himself. Who said you have to be married to be happy? Everybody got hurt because he tried to accept her when he wasn't ready. And Koharu never called Masamune dad
