Why was it so bad that his soul force was dried? is it really that bad?

Maybe when it's sucked dry, it can't replenish and the person will die since it's their soul force. I don't really know though

Almost like when you use a lot of blood, though your body can make more it's slow and you can die. Thats is what I believe it's about.
