It was never stated and from the way akitora and his wife talked, it's highly unlikely it was an arranged or political marriage. She doesn't seem like she is from a high-class family either. I think both of them have known each other for years, met as students or kids and genuinely love each other and accept each other's flaws. She'll always be the one he returns to. And they are pretty close if you look at him lying on her lap. It's not smth someone or a yakuza would do to anyone. Nonetheless the wife still deserves better wether she knows about his infidelity or not or even accepts it and idc about that shit.

Why do we have to "root" for one or the other? Can't we just be interested in what happens? And if I'm "rooting" for Rogi, it's not necessarily that I want him to win and Akitora's wife to lose as much as I want Rogi to become self-actualized and stop hurting himself with his choices. That's what I'm rooting for.

That my friend is what you call a home wrecking whore, male female to me it doesn't matter if the couple is happy let them be. I was hoping the married couple would stay together but I guess not which is sad, Rogi should've let them be and found someone else to love.
There are tons of yaoi manga's that involve a third party, be it a man or a woman. And correct me if I'm wrong my fellow readers, we always wished for the happy ever after together of the 2 male mc's, and most of those are the one's with a female "third party", third party in the sense that they are not the main couple attraction. It hurts to see a woman being disregarded as an unneeded side dish.
Akitora's wife is a very wonderful woman, she even bore Tatsuyuki even though it was an arranged marriage (praise all those women). Rogi on the other hand, is like a rogue, an untamed snake, who only wants Akitora's attention. So the question is, will you root for the wife who sacrificed her life, being the wife of Akitora tied her down, or Rogi who only wants to be loved?
For me, it's a no-brainer to root for Akitora's wife. The law and the society dictates that they should be together. It was only Akitora and Rogi who selfishly met behind the wife's back (damn those Ch. 5 and Ch. 6 raws). Rogi is trying to push his way in Akitora's side but he can't seem to see that it is already occupied. If only Akitora distanced himself, then Rogi would forcefully push himself to move on sooner than later, and if there is, Akitora won't have developed feelings for Rogi, and then he could cherish his wife more. They are only hurting themselves and the others when we follow the story line. It's not good for our hearts anymore. :(
