I was wondering if people actually even do that??? My mom might have done that to me once but that's because I wouldn't leave a store, and it wasn't as serious as how the mc did it.
There are absolutely people who do that. Manipulative people who should not be parents. It makes me double sideeye since this is an adoptive situation, since a lot of people who really should not be adoptive parents get it because they """"qualify"""" and do exactly this kind of thing to young kids
My only issue is that threatening to leave your child alone as a method of making them do something is manipulative and can have some pretty severe negative affects later in life. Otherwise, carry on.
