I don't think he's being a bitch..

I think he did care for his nephew but he is too caught up with the "idea" of his beloved sister's wish of curing her son.. he thinks he needed to finish that deed.. and with his own hands, "cure" his nephew..

i think somewhere along the years of trying to treat the strange illness of his nephew, he also became strange and his mind became ill.. he became obsessed with the idea of treatment and research..
