1. No shortcuts. Study the fundamentals really well. Knowing the basics provides a good foundation for future learning and retention. Don't memorize, understand!
2. Exercise to deal with stress. You will be studying a lot so it's important to ensure you make time to get up and move around as well. As tempting as it sounds, don't just read manga during your breaks but feel free to reward yourself at the end of the day with that if you want. Keep in mind that addiction is an obstacle!
3. Every individual has insecurities. You just need to grow thicker skin and learn to accept yourself. Easier said than done but know that you made it this far because you are capable.
4. There are tons of disadvantages but the advantages trump everything - you chose this field for a reason and remind yourself of that reason often. That being said, the majority of students sacrifice a lot to excel. You spend a lot of time in the field and see everybody around you get jobs and climb up the occupational/family/social ladder while you are still a student with no means or time. But you have a very bright future ahead of you so hang in there.
Congrats and welcome to the medical field! Like any other career choice, the experience is what you make it.
I'm not a med student. But hope u r doing well with ur study my advice ? Do not read yaoi
Thank you for the great advice....
Ah, now you strike me 4 times...
I really need to sharpen myself, I am kinda with fundamentals and all but I am willing to take all....
I am practicing to resist manga... Did leave anime addiction behind and hoping I could somehow lessen my manga addiction when I surf the net.. I could focus on other stuff for few days but I crave for it...
Sorry for really disturbing you.. I am just really afraid, I really look up dermatologist too much but the work to go there is pretty steep and when I heard my bff failed hers... I was more insecure of my abilities...
Oh it is alright if you are not.. but my problem is that my study habits and self esteem...
August 1 is the start of class and I have orientation this July 17 to 31...
Med school is much overwhelming... You did pierce my heart on that one.... I stopped anime for the reason of doing thesis and yeah you are right... maybe I should stop...
I can stop for few days and also I have learned to wait patiently and do not expect anything on updates so I am not really the gangho (sorry of misspelled) type of yaoi addict...
I'm really sorry to hear about your friend, that is always a very hard place to end up. It is definitely a very competitive field but if you want something bad enough then you will work extra hard and do anything you can to get it. So if you really want it then don't doubt yourself. Try talking to your friend about her experience with the process and try to learn from her successes/mistakes. The fact that you're on here asking for advice means that you are sincere and already actively trying to work towards success. Your sincerity will get you very far with your patients in the future. Persistence is key and if you have any doubts then try to start studying ahead of time to give yourself an edge over the competition (but also try to enjoy your few weeks before the hardcore studying starts).
As for the manga addiction, it gets easier to stay away once you find yourself busy with real life. The longer you stay away, the less you crave it. It will take time though so be strong! You can do it!
Im studying veterinary med so my field is a bit different than yours, all I can say is the stuff that you're encountering as a freshman is nothing once you've reached the later years of college.
Hello I am a 20 yr old and currently on my 4th year of being a med student!
1. Frankly, I like studying. No kidding. I love the process of understanding a physiology or pathophysiology. So I think you should try to enjoy too. And yes, try to understand not to memorize everything! Everything is logical so you should find points to help you understand better.
2. Tbh, I also cant deal with this very well. When the stress is so high, I just cry (lol im serious) then I feel better afterwards. As for anime and manga (especially yaoi addiction lol), I actually add it on my break times as one of my attempt in dealing with stress. And it works for me! I still watch anime on weekends and read manga at night. Tho I wont be doing this near the exam week.
3. Yes I have like LOTS of insecurities. I am generally an insecure person lol I always keep in mind that everything shall pass. So I just have to take it slowly and face it wholeheartedly. Talking to friends also help sometimes.
4. I think the major advantage is time, you spend more years studying and learning compared to the other field. I think that the strong seniority here is also a disadvantage. But then again, everything will pass! So take your time and face it patiently. And I think you should at least recognize your own major disadvantage once you chose this field! And every time you are at the bottom, please remind yourself that you chose med field for a reason.
Have a good day too! I am currently on a late night yaoi reading spree after spending days in hospital. (●'◡'●)ノ
