Those norms are also worked around me. Most of my friends and some strangers I used to talked to told me that boy liking yaoi and girl liking yuri is weird. Even so, I actually have the same thought like you about it so yeah
actually it's fine for boy to like yaoi but some of boy don't want other people think they're weird so they always think like that.
Honestly I don't mind if a dude reads yaoi or yuri. But if your friends wants to tie himself down to the "social norms" it's his choice I suppose.

Well the social norm here(where I live) from my experience.... There ain't nothing called personal space. Like not kidding, at my school guys/girls will just randomly kiss throughout the day, it's either just little casual kisses, or then it's full blown make-out sessions. And they are always touching eachother(In private places too). And they don't really find it weird if a guy would read yaoi, cause they sometimes will watch gay porn together. So like the ''norm'' here is being ''gay''. But yeah, if ya boi wanna stick to being a square, then ya just gotta let him do his thang, but maybe try to show him the highlights of yaoi ;)
I talked with a friend and i told him that I like Yaoi. He just said that he just likes Yuri because it's weird for a guy liking Yaoi. He said it's okay for girls liking Yuri but it's weird for guys liking Yaoi.
I was so confused like... I don't think it's weird. It's the same thing. Girls liking Yuri is the same as boys liking Yaoi.
