Next time you run into a woman with broken bones and bruises from her husband, make sure to tell her that he really, really loves her but just doesn't know how to handle it. Cause, yeah....

'Course it's not real. But it's not a fantasy story. It's dark realism (ie, no magic, no possession by monsters). This is very similar to some actual news stories where someone takes a woman and keeps her in the basement for years--raping them, chaining them, terrorizing them. It actually happens. I guess that's why I have a hard time with people making excuses for Sungho. We should pity his madness, but we should not feel like this is just a love-unhandled. This is a person unhinged and doing evil things. Even if it's fiction, it mirrors events in real life.

Do y'all want to hug that man who kept girls in his basement for years and bred kids with them? Cause he probably would say he loved them. Yeah. No.

I completely agree, but I guess I kind of sympathise with Sungho. I never said what he's doing is right. But obviously Sungho's got some mental problems and isn't dealing with the situation like a sane person would.

    Anyways, its not real.
And you should be able to tell the difference between fiction and reality

I can. Some folks can't seem to tell when someone is deranged instead of in love, though.

I find it very hard (practically impossible) to take this manhwa as seriously as I would a news report. It's a manhwa and yaoi at that. Sure people get raped and kidnapped in real life but when the news recounts the event it's not eroticized at all.

If we're holding the characters strictly to the morals of reality, no Dohyun doesn't deserve this and yes Songho is a criminal. But this is fiction, why not have a little fun reading it? In most stories police and psychologist are non existent anyway.

One could educate me on psychological trauma abuse victims endure in real life but I still wouldn't shed a tear for Dohyun. Not because I lack awareness but because this is a work of fiction and the characters are not real. It is imperative that people know this is only fictional and the opinions are about fictional people.

Going by the story, Dohyun does not deserve it and Sungho is a criminal. So, yeah. :D

That's your interpretation of the manhwa and there's nothing wrong with that. However everyone does not view the manhwa the same way and that's fine too. We're all reading this for entertainment.

Well, reading is not jsut for entertainment. Sure, its for fun, but reading is also about understanding human nature and life, and for catharsis or an emotional ride. This one is emotional ride, for sure, and the suspense/mystery is entertaining, but it's also something that shows how people interpret things about human nature and behavior.

Objectively, Dohyun has not YET in flashbacks done anything warranting this behavior many years later. And it's only an emotional attachment to Sungho that explains saying Dohyun merits kidnapping, torutre, rape, and death threats. I'd challenge anyone to put someone they love in Dohyun's position and say they deserve it and Sungho needs a hug.

Fiction tells us things about who we are. Some of the reactions to this are scary in terms of how we justify evil and criminality if we like one or dislike another person.

Honestly it has become difficult to find a topic with an opinion other than "Sungho is a criminal, Dohyun doesn't deserve this" without people mocking, insulting and otherwise bashing the people for giving their opinion. Rather than exploring differing interpretations, a lot of people resort attack others for not having a monotonous reaction. In the process people seemingly forget we're talking about fiction. For me, it makes discussing the manhwa uninteresting.

    This isn't necessarily towards you, I'm just venting because I'm annoyed (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜
