For everyone in the comment section who doesn't understand the author's decisions with the second 'couple' or who hasn't experienced the same sibling dynamic:
Maybe its because I feel gut wrenching love for my siblings like I'm legit insane about them. But when you're an older sibling + you have younger siblings with an age gap (like more than 5 years), who you RAISE (parentification rip), what ends up happening in a lot of cases is tht u start seeing them as your kids. I have read this book multiple times and yea I do see the chemistry between the personalities but I don't see any remote chances of romance or the brother developing feelings for yeom ra (as somebody who basically raised her siblings), I can't possibly fathom him having any romantic towards this man who not only killed his baby/child sibling but also tortured him for centuries. Like yea, his life was sad and sure he was abused but im not even kidding when I say that my siblings murderer could be a rape victim and it could be an accident but I would never be able to truly forgive or forget much less develop feelings. The brother gave me 'I'm crazy about my sibling/child and will do anything for him inlcuding murder' (why I related to him sm) so it just would be misplaced jn his character arc if he did develop romantic feelings for said dude. I can see pity and, maybe, empathy but I can never imagine feeling anything for someone who murders your younger sibling. What he did to the brother was inhumane and absolutely vile. In bl any criminal behavioral responses that's not hardcore rape is pretty widely accepted as long as it's not rape and our initial response is just to be like o why wouldn't they have any romance its not like he raped him but realistically, ppl who adore their younger siblings + raised them would never be able to digest looking at someone who hurt them in a romantic manner. It's not about obsession vs love, its about good writing, it would be very misplaced if someone who is crazy about their younger sibling + raised them from birth suddenly became okay with ever dating someone who they regard as their sibling's murderer.
I remember this one person tht I was kinda seeing simply insulted my younger sibling and that was the moment tht I decided to cut off the relationship completely. Like the instant (legit took a min) they decided to spit something even remotely negative about my sibling, that was the end of it. I couldn't look at their face a minute longer. They could never become a pair (unless out of Stockholm or coercion) bc the older brother would not date someone he regards as his brother's murderer and his centuries long torture coordinator.
