Still...what's with his personality switch pre-post evil book? He lost a lot of his silliness (probably to suit the tone shift in the story), but I don't see why he was all about retiring peacefully at the start when he was clearly working towards something bigger. Was it that he already took his revenge on the OG betrayers and had no clues about the book so chose to give up or something? Doesn't really match with how tenacious he is after the book reveal, did author just find a cool resolution to the story they wanted to tell?
I'm not complaining tbh. The author does a good job of making him competent and slowly driving up the threat scale. It never feels like he's unbeatable to me. Embarrassingly, I didn't pick up on the "third rate villain" thing being part of MC's skill/curse condition until he literally spelled it out for me. Maybe once this ends, I'll read a wiki or something to figure out what the actual overall timeline was like.
