Edit: Most people weren't taking the granny side. It would be ignorant to say no one.
It's understandable. It's a bit difficult to sympathize with a character who's contributed to the protagonist's abuse, despite the implication that she received abuse as well. The abuse the grandmother is not ignored, some have sympathized, but what happened to her is overshadowed by what happened to Bum.
SPOOOOOOOOOOILERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I totally forget about it. Sorry yall
The granny is an adult. She could have reached out for help or done something to protect the child. She is also a victim, but lets face it, she raised the uncle and she still has to be an adult.
I agree but considering that she still love both her son and grandson, it would be hard for a granny to turn his son into police. Remember that she pitied her son and I know a mother who would always defend her son no matter how abusive her son can be. Both parties are wrong.
agree, what the hell supporting your son that rape a f* child who is your nephew, son of your daughter, how to compare rape with some beating, the helll, and only devianting mothers would countinue to support an abusive/rapist/ incestous son, love and blood relations are not limitless
so she's fucked up like her son
bum has no selfishness, he's a child that's trying to survive
I believe he was no longer a minor.
He wasn't
Bum left the house, thinking only of himself, lacking consideration of the repercussions his grandmother would face due to it. I think that is what OP was referring to. I wouldn't necessarily blame Bum for it but by defintion, he was selfish.
Are you sure? I thought he was in high school, and so still a child.
The financial support is a good point. Still, she raised Bum's uncle (her son). That doesn't mean she was at fault, but when the uncle was small, maybe that's the time she should have influenced the uncle more? And why is she so passive? Are there no nosy neighbors or groups she could join even if it is not the police, or anyone that she could reach out to? I'm not saying it's easy, but for the child, she should have tried. She is both a victim and an accomplice (much like Bum is now).
When you mentioned about the granny educating her son at earlier age, I know a mother who abused her child but settled down at old age and had her son abuse her instead. We were informed that the uncle had biased affection than his brother, though we didn't know if it's just his perception or how worse the bias is.
I assume that the granny is being passive right because 1. She has been passive and her husband was abusive, 2. She's reflecting her past mistake and being passive means that she's letting her son to lash out his anger towards her instead. Though all the physical abuse was directed more to Bum. And Bum? It's just that he lost his parents and has a bad luck in his life.
Nosy neighbors, and the police. People tend to overlook abuse, if everyone is so attend with it then there'll be more abusive report and we could even prevent abuse relationship right now. But no, that's now what reality is. At least, maybe in this series people are just being ignorant.
Reach out. I assume that the granny didn't know that the uncle's raping Bum. And she's just being salty because Bum is being selfish, after he had asked her for money and then went to sauna. When Bum was being abused, granny could only plead to stop but never really shoved herself to stop the abuse. And she has been taking care of Bum after being abuse and all. She would be salty when Bum left and caused her to be abused in his place.
She would reach out unless she's still love her son. Like I said, I know a mother who would defense her son despite her son being abusive and all. She pitied her son and doesn't want her son to live a miserable any longer which I think is stupid and pathetic.
Her parenting may not have been the best but there's nothing that can be done about the past now. We don't have any information about the neighborhood to assume any support groups were available to them. I won't deny she could have done more, even if only pleading with her son, but since she's elderly and also a victim of his abuse I'm not sure there's much she could have done. I wish we had some background on how Bum's grandmother treated him before they moved in with the uncle but that may not be important to the story.
I would like to believe that granny didn't know about the rape, though at the beginning of chap 26 we see his uncle jerking off over Bum while he slept beside her. She overlooks the abuse her son does and also explains Bum that his uncle has led a sorry life so Bum shouldn't hold it against him. She isn't inherently bad but she could've done more than feed and clean her grandson's wound.
It's more probable that she knew.
No one is taking the granny side even when she was abused because of Bum's selfishness. I know both sides are desperate and the person who should be blame was that uncle. He is abusing the weaker and forced them to do as he wish.
