anna is super dense regarding romance, and she ignored him after rejecting someone---then ignored him more when she realized she was in love with him. i can see why he doesn't have confidence. she unconsciously gave him hope, but then unconsciously took it away (literally the whole series.) love her, but you gotta recognize chara flaws when you see them.
