I think he'd forgotten for literally a short amount of time then remembered in the early stage of their relationship
he forgot about it (kinda) until lyle told him after they started dating. really he just never realised it was karlyle
He did not forget, he just didn't realize it was karlyle until karlyyle gave him a hint. He actually returned to time square to look for karlyle the next day because he liked the kiss as well.
