i believe it's a translation issue, we can't find exact words in another language to every term, so I believe they picked what would make "sense"... But since Korean is a language with a lot of ways to call a lot of people depending on age (oppa, hyung, noona, unni, ahjusshi, etc) it may not be something creepy
In the raws he never says "kid" or anything like that... he just says "너" which is an Informationen way of saying "you"
