Maybe it's because Ash said few chapters ago and even in main storyline that he hoped Lyle will talk to him at his pace and take his time but suddenly he out of nowhere tells Ash in middle of road to choose between two things other being outdoor sex by the way and forcing him to confess. Yes he had safeword but I feel like Lyle won't call him that because it's stated that he is too embarrassed to use that nickname so in the end Ash is still forcing him both way.

Lyle and Ash have a safeword, If Lyle wasn't consenting, he would've used it
