Queue the eye roll. Even with this hug, Jjk is still acting out of self interest. He doesn't care about Dan's safety or his love; he thought his ticket to success potentially drowned and was terrified of what that meant for his own future. He didn't even think for one second about how his actions could've led to Dan's drinking or aided in his suicide attempt. There was no remorse or reflection. We've been given WAY too much evidence that he has no empathy for Dan or his situation, so I don't believe that'd magically change now. He's still shallow and single-minded.
Some of these comments blaming Dan for his broken state aren't giving enough credit to the resilience that got him here. Dan put up with poverty, abandonment, sexual harassment, extortion, gang violence, gentrification, his grandmother's illness, physical/emotional abuse, rape, humiliation, demonization, and betrayal for all of his life. He has been fighting and pushing himself forward through all that. Yet only now, for these past few months, has he been this defeated and broken--give the man some fucking grace. What Jjk and his team did was break his spirit. For the first time in his life he was given an opportunity to escape his tragic string of events, yet even then he couldn't get away from misfortune tearing it all away from him in the blink of an eye. Those bastards turned their back on him without a second thought. Is it really that hard to see why he's finally given in to defeat? Dan will always deserve better, and Jjk will always be the straw that broke the camel's back. Sorry, but we need A LOT more growth before any kind of romantic shift starts. Redemptive chasing arc? Nah. We need a repentance arc.( ̄へ ̄)
