DETAILED SPOILERS:
Jiwook and Jooyeon were friends when they were in middle school, they both liked each other but Jiwook ran with a pretty nasty crowd and was like an actual gangster at the tender age of 15. He was scared of being seen as gay so when Jooyeon confessed to him he freaked out, lured him to the school sports warehouse, and got his friends to rape him. As they're assaulting him Jiwook taunts Jooyeon and says he'll let him go after being his toy for a year. They started using him for sex for several months while taking blackmail photos and videos. There isn't a clear timeline of how long the abuse lasts but it begins around the end of summer(?) and lasts until winter. (At least three months which is why Jooyeon in the present offers the same deal to Jiwook.) Eventually the abuse is caught by a janitor and Jiwook has to do community service but is otherwise let off with a slap on the wrist. Jiwook retaliates for getting caught by posting the videos and pictures everywhere and sending some footage to Jooyeon's mom, which causes her to have a psychotic breakdown and be admitted to the hospital where she remains until the present day. Jiwook then gets into a fight with a rival gangster called Woojin who hits him in the head and scrambles his brain, which is why he completely forgets everything that happened between him and Jooyeon. Jooyeon is convinced by Woojin to pursue revenge and they make a deal for Jooyeon to be trained by Woojin in exchange for financial support and the dude spends the next seven years working his ass off to punish Jiwook for his crimes.

Jiwook gets his memories back in the end after Jooyeon organizes for him to be gang raped for a second time in an encounter that nearly kills him. Afterwards he's so fucked up and Jooyeon is too attached so they end up staying together.
