Im js saying like what makes u think he wouldnt kill her if the king found out. Shes not safe js cuz the duke is nice. Is he not supposed to feel guilty for what he did js cuz he was threatened?
Thats why ppl say acab. So many do unforgivable things since its their "job" and get away with it. Yes ppl blame the system but those cops willingly are part of that system cuz they need a secure future. Same thing applies to the duke. You cant say u side with a minority group then massacre them to save ur butt, and then go on to still say ur on their side. He obv hasnt been forgiven since hes still cursed.

Mfs when someone using a real world example for their argument ゚ ゚ ( Д )
Didnt even address the other 80% of the argument X_x
Was acab too woke? What abt nazi germany :O After germans killed all the jews no one was mad at germans specifically but the nazis. While some did volunteer, u were also threatened to die with them if u didnt follow orders. U think a srry will wash away blood in their hands? Forced or not they could be forced again. Thats why most jews mever moved back becuz they knew they werent safe anymore despite hitler's loss.

I'm going to hold your hand, with a tissue barrier, when I say it is not this serious. Fiction might not be your cup of tea if your incapable of separating fiction from the reality we live in and prevents you from enjoying any books for that matter. None of what you said needs to be touched on or discussed because it's irrelevant to this FICTIONAL MEDIEVAL story and is not the real world bound by obvious morals and guidelines. I will reiterate my one and only stance;
This is fiction. Stop acting like the Duke did that voluntarily and NOT because it's a direct order from absolute authority. Kings, in history, were seen as direct power after God, try ignoring his orders because of your moral code see what happens there is nothing he could've done that would change the fate of those people and his. The only one who "won" was the king who's authority

Im not gon lie it seems you’re being purposely ignorant and ignoring what the other person is saying. With ACAB it’s because those cops know they can get away with whatever whether they were told to do it or not and 9 times outta 10 they act on their own and it’s more bad than good cops either committing the wrong doings or cover them up hence ACAB. That analogy goes against what happened in the story COMPLETELY, the king made the duke go into war multiple times and come back gaining more support and hated that so what’d he do? He sent him to murder an entire community knowing if he didn’t it’d be treason and not only would the duke die BUT all his workers, family, and close associates would too as it’d be an act of treason against the king. Which also takes it away from your Nazi analogy where you said one German would die if he didn’t go along with it here everyone dies as that’s how medieval tyrannical kings rule. No one says what he did wasn’t bad but to him it was his people or another group of people be for real rn. Also, your whole “when he finds out what stops him from killing her” doesn’t make sense because once again he didn’t want to kill those people just cause and the ENTIRE dukes manor was cursed with their only source of non “ghostly” (used lightly as they can’t interact with actual ghost just each other and also can’t interact with their families) interactions being this little girl who came to succeed their master. They’d probably be okay to do anything for her tf? I feel you genuinely just forgot plots/parts of the story. Sorry if this came off as rude and for the length of the comment.

I'm not the guy they were beefing with but their logic is so annoying so thank youu. The commenter has such a bad faith argument.
ACAB isnt about "I do bad things bc of my duty" its ab "I do bad things bc I want to and I know I can get away with it". Its ab genuinely terrible people being put into roles of authority and abusing it.
A better analogy would be a soldier in the military but in modern times there is quite literally NO COMPARISON between the stakes for the Duke and for a soldier who deserts bc of moral incompatibility. A soldier deserts and they MIGHT go to jail. If the Duke refused this order, all his family, friends and civillians he's responsible for would be killed, his land seized, his people thrown likely to death, slavery or poverty which is exactly what the Emperor WANTED to do bc he knew the Duke doesnt want to commit genocide so its a win-win for the Emperor and a lose-lose for the Duke. There's no doubt in my mind that if the Duke could have just offered his head up alone he would've done it but given the choice between an innocent population that you love vs an innocent population you dont know, what choice do you have?

Reply to all// So ur saying that the duke will risk his dukedom for her? If the emperor ordered him to kill her he'd risk putting his entire land in danger?
Im not saying duke is a evil person by all means. Just that shes NOT safe with him. Like u said he sacrifieced sm lives so the ppl in his dukedom could live, so is he fr willing to risk killing them all for a child? NO! That would make all the deaths he already sacrificed die in vain.
And i still stand my ground he SHOULD feel guilty. Idc if he was forced, guilt proves ur humanity. U cant js do shit and not feel the weight on ur shoulders.

1) The curse said they will not live nor die so one can assume they are immortal. Atp what does the Duke have left to lose? He could just kill the Emperor lol
2) This is a childcare manhwa dad we're talking about. He will consider FL one of his people, love her more than anything and be willing to do or sacrifice anything for her. We all know how this works
3) Given he has the benefit of hindsight (just like we do), he may have made a different choice if he knew the suffering he would inflict on his people
4) I dont think anyone is arguing he shouldnt feel guilty, it would be fucked up if he didnt. But as the reader we know all the circumstances. We can give him a more charitable (and accurate) equivalency than a fucking Nazi or a corrupt cop bfr
5) if the Duke didnt do it, the Emperor would've just wiped out and looted the Duchy (as he intended) then get someone less moral to commit the massacre

Yea like what Chryselephantine said they’re at a point in their life that they would do anything for her she’s the next duchess after all. Not to mention her life BEFORE the duke wasn’t entirely safe either they hated her there now she’s in a place that loves/adores her genuinely. Plus the duke no longer holds the power, authority, and fame he once held when told to commit the massacre. Therefore the king has no reason to really care as that was his true goal in the end he didn’t care who the innocent party was he just needed an innocent group of people to slaughter to make the duke look bad or deny and kill the duke.
Also yea no one said he shouldn’t feel guilty he murdered innocents no matter if he had a choice or not ofc he’ll feel guilty. He just doesn’t deserve to get treated as the worst and most vile character in the book because we know why he had to do it. I’m also sure it’s maybe gonna be a plot point in this book about how he murdered them and she’s most likely the last one. Y’know how these typa stories go.
Why are they ignoring the fact the duke killed an entire marginalized group...
Im hoping for the lesser of two evils that the duke didnt actually massacred them and it was just an excuse to explain why he was cursed
