I think you’re forgetting the time period they’re in and the position the MC is in. She’s the daughter of a powerless consort and the forgotten princess of a kingdom that lost a war. Quite literally, she can’t earn power by herself, and she doesn’t even desire to have such power—she quite literally just doesn’t wanna die.
MC is also the consort of the emperor, and the job of a consort is just to have the emperor (or empress’s) child(ren). In the society that they exist, if she doesn’t have a child the other nobles that want to marry their daughters to the emperor will push for her to be lower ranked or just kicked out of her position. And yeah, the position of emperor is powerful, but the story clearly repeats that the emperor still needs satisfy the nobility and keep them in check.
Also, he does value her as a person. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t help her at all when she’s in trouble or even visit her. In the book the MC reincarnated int the emperor ACTUALLY DOESNT care about the woman MC possessed. He literally marries the red head psycho and doesn’t visit the OG!FL
Exactly why I dropped this lmfao. Even though this is fiction, my annoyance can't put up with this. Also, you won't change my mind that even if he's slowly changing or whatnot cares, he is still dislikeable to me. My modern mind can't be used to see women getting abused and be bred like livestock just so someone in power can have an heir.
