Many people hating on airi but i find airi pitiful as a victim or example of Freud's theory of oedipus complex, though it's only a theory and not a diagnosis but airi did suffer from the past and saw that past as shameful and was guilty of it, all this time he wanted to move on but also had no one to tell it to.
The story was basically focused on how airi overcoming having a crush on his brother while being in a relationship with itsuki. The whole issue between the two lovers was "honesty". Airi struggling to do so because he was ashamed of his past and i bet he hated his past self as well, it's his dark history, after all (and I'm sure everyone also has one that they don't want to let other people know, especially the one they're going out with). Aside from shame and guilt, there's also a sense of vulnerability that airi is struggling to show to itsuki, it's a situation where airi has to show his vulnerability, shame, and guilt to his lover. He truly wanted to move on and to do so, he needed to be honest first to itsuki. And please note, this whole time, airi was actually more burdened on the fact that he can't be honest with itsuki than him having a crush on his brother on the past. Itsuki was also amazingly patient and understanding of his partner, when airi finally confessed, he didn't judge, he was just happy that his lover is finally being honest with him and trusts on him at least, and that yk, no more distances and walls between them. Also, let's not ignore how the focus on his brother shifted to itsuki since they met, this shift basically shows how truly airi finds genuine happiness in being in love with itsuki than when he has a crush on his brother. Airi just doesn't want to lose the one person he loves who stands and supports him because of his past that's why he confessed and promised honesty for their future as well.
Basically, the manga was about lovers overcoming dishonesty and building trust with each other as they open themselves up to one another. I really enjoyed the story and hope that you will too. Tho it'll be hard to read if you're already prejudiced and biased based on majority of the comments about the manga.
