Honestly in his situation it’s not even only that but also the fact that he group in the mountains the only ppl he knew growing up was his parents and those villagers, then he started work in a noble household never left the build and was stuck nose deep in books it’s not wonder he’s book smart rather than life smart
he’s either really stupid or unbelievably smart. they’re on an island that is a criminal haven. anyone who can survive walking the streets on their own has to be a thug in a gang or someone stronger. so he either knows but pretended not to know that the girl is most likely a criminal-or he’s just dumb
