You try being a human being ?!? Don't tell me you've never crushed on a customer. Lol. He's around. This kid 24/7 what do you think?!? He didn't sign up to be a body guard just his façade. And the longer he spends time with him the more he sees what this kid is going through and starts sympathizing with him. He didn't go there to be a body guard but a thief. And he couldn't steal it right away and the lack of opportunities to search for the necklace delayed him further thus exposing him to more of YeShin.
