I don't think it would be out of hatred. I think if it did happen it was because the family member was suffering and he couldn't think of a way to keep them safe. Or they died on their own and he had to kill their zombie.
That does kinda make sense
I have a theory that when things started getting tough Teach killed his sick relative and has blocked it out of his memory.
