The story could've ended at season 1, but the author then introduces 2 new plot points that mess up the mc and ml's development so that it takes 2 extra seasons and a total of 8 years in-universe to form a relationship that had already been established in season 1. Seems like a lot of people really enjoyed it, however, so maybe this is a personal preference thing. The art style was enjoyable and I liked the 80's setting, but that's about it.
