Yes I agree that he was being selfish, but I disagree that was the only thing on his mind. As per his conversation (lmao yelling) at their other friend crying. He said it himself that it's a dumb reason. If MC had said a more serious reason he might have stopped to listen but from his perspective it was just nonsense.

No matter how stupid the reason is, yelling is never the answer. His friend is clearly affected very deeply. + His whole "can't see my senpai" case is just painting him as a selfish friend instead of harsh friend.
