Eh it was more open ended rather than feeling like a complete ending. A tragic ending would’ve been more like Clauden leaving the place and never returning. But the ending of chapter 16 just has them meeting face to face and having a conversation, which could go anywhere. It’s more open and unsatisfying leaving it there since the reader can just guess they can still see each other.

The blackhaired guy's denial that he was not the childhood friend was the end of it,a closure imo. Anyway the tragic ending may have been the unique part of the story, but oh well, I understand that you all like happy endings. Congrats.. but I wish this had been a tragedy, it made me feel something.

I didn’t say anything about wanting a happy ending? In my opinion I hate open endings and chapter 16’s ending was an open ending where the reader can guess what happened after that whether that’s a positive resolution or negative ending. I’m saying for a tragic ending, it would’ve been way better to make clauden leave the city and never return, which makes more sense for them to never be able to see each other again rather than stand in front of each other not knowing what will happen after.
As opposed to the open ending of chapter 16, which even if clauden denied it, that still doesn’t mean luen would automatically give up and everything would be over. Luen knows where he lives now and like he’s doing now, is continuously trying to convince him.

And just to add: The idea that the light hair character "pursuing" the black hair character after rejection is easily understood, even with the ending of Chapter 16. This idea will linger in readers' minds, leading to"what ifs" and adding impact to the story imo. Well just like what you said, you're not a fan of "open ending" ( but I disagree that chapter 16 is), this idea might not be your cup of tea, but wtv ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

I completely understand what you're saying but what are you referring to when you said consequence? Is it the mc still in love with his childhood friend getting beat up for wanting too much or "overstepping" his grounds as a commoner or the ml who even forgot the face of his love going mad trying to find him not knowing the person he'd been searching for was the person he hurt, now the most obvious answer was the ml actions but then what about the mc? What did he ever do to deserve that? Chapter 16 was going to be an unsatisfactory ending without much needed extra chapters.
The extra chapters didn't need to be the ml being forgiven at all, it could've been an alternate timeliness where the butler hadn't gone on the trip or the ml had arrived a few days earlier similar to the authors previous work the third ending.. but that's just my opinion

I understand wanting a bad ending but it still has to be good, just because its didfrent from the norm doesnt make it a good one. chapter 16 wasn't really a bad nor good ending it was a very open ended one, close to a cliff hanger rather. If the op wanted an end g where they didn't end up together the the mc being healed and on his way to reunite with his family leaving the ml behind would've been much better
I don't know about yall, but they should not have created any "happy" side stories for this. Chapter 16's "tragic ending" made it unique for me, and it felt grounded in reality, showing that actions have consequences and or sum shit. T^T
