I agree and it's so annoying, but the way the ask is also important, many people don't even ask, they ask you through the flight atendants...

I despised this kind of behaviour so much.! Whether asking to changes sit on the plane, diners or hotel rooms. I experienced all of them before, and if I didn’t give it, they’d think I’m poorly educated.! I mean people who asked all of that was highly class..???!! (╬￣皿￣)凸
