    The way she did her makeup was to make it look unnatural. Koreans, Chinese and Japanese place a high value on naturally pale skintones. It's a cultural aesthetic.

    It also has to do with how she exaggerated her make up like her eyeshadow, lip stick, and I think having freckles back then was a sign of being ugly and looked down upon.

    And a toxic one lol. There are sooooo many native east Asians that have darker skin tone and they were looked down upon. It's the notion that rich ppl don't tan because they don't have to work manual labour under the sun. It's classism.
